ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for daily functions and operations of the QC Department including planning, inspections and coordinating of Aitken's shop fabrication / manufacturing.
  • Perform dimensional and visual inspections of shop fabrication, which includes weld preparations, final welds, and paint.
  • Responsible for fabricated materials conforming to drawings, shop standards, customer specifications, applications, and maintaining records of same.
  • Record and maintain in-process and final inspections records for quality
  • Identify and remedy drawing discrepancies with the engineering department and / or inside sales.
  • Witness all hydro testing.
  • Coordinate NDE inspections (RT, MT, PT, UT, BHN), and schedule inspections and audits.
  • Ensures materials and workmanship meet applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Complete contract document reviews for Estimating, pre-job specification reviews, pre-job meetings, and project kick-off meetings.
  • Interface with Shop & Inside Sales personnel to identify and troubleshoot material and/or workmanship issues.
    • Inform the foreman of defects on fabrication.
    • Assist shop personnel with interpretation of drawings and specifications.
  • Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to current inspection methods.
  • Investigates production deficiencies and identifies corrective action.
  • Provides recommendations to management relating to the continuous improvement of the department in order to maximize production and minimize associated costs.
  • Collaborate with QA Manager and QC Manager colleagues to develop and implement a consistent approach for all of DBM Global.
  • Update testing procedures to ensure industry compliance.
  • Maintains records and ensures compliance for company certifications.

  • This position serves as the appointed management representative having the responsibility and authority that includes;
  • Ensuring that procedures needed for the quality management system are established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the ASME Section VIII, and additional manufacturing standards.
  • Reporting to executive management on the performance of the quality system and any need for improvement.
  • Ensuring the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization.
  • Reviewing the quality management system at defined intervals sufficient to ensure the stability of the quality management system and its effectiveness in satisfying the ASME Certification and client requirements.
  • Liaising with external parties on matters relating to the quality management system.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education & Training:

HS Diploma or equivalent.  8 years related experience in the pressure vessel industry as a QC Manager or 5 years in the area of a Certified Welding Inspector.  Completion of verifiable vocational or training program shall count as 1 year of experience.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

Ability to read and interpret shop drawings.  Demonstrated knowledge of various methods of weld testing procedures and ability to develop PQR/WPS. Has a working knowledge of codes and standards (ASME codes, API, DOT, and AWS). Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred.

Personal Computer; phone/fax; NDT Equipment.  Computer Software includes: MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and ProWrite (Weld Procedure Program).
